What do you think is going to happen? What do you hope will happen? And what can we do to help determine what will happen? In TCGC I offered three possible scenarios, which I labeled the Design Scenario, the Metaphoric Scenario, and the Apocalyptic Scenario. While you’re constructing your own scenario, which I hope you will share with us at the end of this blog, here’s where I would like to point this website:To me, a Whole Earth Design Project is the way to go, and I am presently exploring the feasibility of such a project with ESRI, the leading Geographic Information System (GIS) software company. I foresee this as a project in which anyone and everyone can get involved by providing Wikipedia-like input or by simply observing and promoting the progressively clarifying planetary image of a virtual cooperative society. Such a project will fulfill the Internet’s dual functions of education and organization.

In 1974, when I was newly a single mom, broke and desperate, living in the U of T married students’ apartment building on Charles Street in Toronto, I invested in a book at Coles, at nearby Yonge and Bloor, for $2.99: Public Works, a handbook for self-reliant living, by Walter Szykitka. I still refer to it ~ nowadays with a magnifying glass. Mr. Szykitka, a citizen of the USA, compiled and photo-copied (remember when?) an enormous collection of pamphlets ~ free pamphlets ~ published by various organizations, on first aid and survival, childcare, food, farm and home, tools and construction, transportation and communication, government, money, and lots of topics in between.
Just before COVID-19 hit us, I was moved to look him up on Wikipedia. I was surprized to find he was still alive, and had a web site, https://thecoalescence.net/ I checked it out, and read a few of the archived articles. I thought it was a really good idea… and then COVID-19 hit, and I forgot all about it. The web site seemed to have forgotten all about me, too, even though I had left my email address. Then in early August, 2020, out of the blue, I received the Moneyism article through my email. I’m glad I did, and I forward the article to some of my acquaintance because I believed they would find the analysis and proposal as intriguing as I have.
